HAPPY SINGLE LADIES

“Die! Die!!” She shouted as she hit him with her handbag.

The pearls which served as a design for the handbag were falling off, but she didn’t worry, she just wanted to send this bastard to hell by all means. Clara had come to visit her boyfriend without notifying him and found him lying with one of his co-workers. She didn’t know who to shout at first as she stood there for several silent minutes before she suddenly ran mad and got hold of her fallen handbag. She came closer and swung the handbag in Billy’s face, but he made a clean swipe which got Clara angrier. She stepped on him with her heels and finally had the chance to hit him when he raised his head for a scream.

Earlier that day, she had been fired from work because she couldn’t get her report written on time. She was coming for consolation when she found another bomb. She felt as if the world was against her, and she wanted everything to come to an end in a second.

After bruising Billy with her handbag which she bought by installment, she leaves for the elevator with heavy feet. She was about to press the button when her phone rang. It was Pinky, her sister. She picked it up only to be met by her cries.

“Can you believe Ryan cheated on me?” Pinky cried over the phone.

“I’m going to make sure he pays. I am going to kill him,” Pinky threatened on the other end.

“Hey, don’t do anything! I’m coming now, so just wait,” Clara ordered, sucking in her breath.

She was in pain and needed to be consoled, but she had to appear fine to console her sister.

“Men suck!”, she muttered as the elevator door closed.

You don’t have to do anything,” she said as she wiped her sister’s tears, but her cheeks were filled with her own tears of pain.

Their parents had divorced when they were so little and both remarried to another person, ignoring them completely. She had to take care of her sister since then and made sure nothing happened to her. She graduated late because she kept taking semester breaks to work for money. The job has not been easy and now love is taking a turn to punish her. Her phone rang as she hugged her sister deeply, so she had to quickly clean her tears before she tore apart from her sister.

“Hello”. She answered the phone.

“Do you mean coffee beans are available? I will come check them now,” she said, hanging up.

She smiled as she extended her hand to her sister and said, “Do you want to make coffee?”. Her sister, not sure of what she was saying, was puzzled.

“I bought stacks of coffee beans for a coffee business. I was going to run a café while working but since work fell through I guess I will have to face the café full time,” she explained.

“Work fell through?” Pinky’s eyes got big at the revelation. “Yeah” Clara replied with a nod.

“And how come you are smiling? Pinky pressed further, surprised,

Because I’ve got to start again,” she responded, picking up her coat. “Let’s go become baristas” she added drawing her hand along.

Their father used to run a café when they were small, so they knew the basics of coffee and Clara learned about coffee when she was a part-timer. It was a dream come true.

“Wow! You are now a certified barista”, Clara exclaimed as Pinky served her a cup of coffee.

It had been five years since they started running the café and Pinky had gone to school to study more about coffee. She just got her barista star title today, but Clara couldn’t attend due to high demand in the café. They sat and looked at the plum tree outside the café, “It’s blooming!” Pinky sighed.

“It marked another year the café was established, and we are still single,” she added.

At least we are happy single ladies, don’t you think so?” Clara said, sipping her coffee.

Of course, we are happy single baristas”, Pinky shouted as they high-fived.
